Issue with Parent selecting child's apps using Family Controls API
I'm trying to accomplish the features in this video where the child device requests permission from parent to control scren time. Then the parent can choose apps on the childs phone from their phone. Everything on the childs device is working exactly like in the video. However, on the parents phone, when the FamilyActivityPicker appears, it's only the apps on the parents phone and when an app is selected, nothing changes in the FamilyActivitySelection. I found this forum post describe the same issue I am having. I have a physical device logged in the child and a simulator running as the parent. Why can't I see the child's apps on the parents phone? Is it cause I'm running one of them on a simulator?

searchable isPresented set too late in a sheet
I have a popover/sheet in iOS which allows users to search and add items to a list. When the sheet is shown, the search should always be active. I am using searchable on a NavigationStack inside the sheet. I am using the isPresented parameter to activate search. My issue is with the animation of the search activation. Even if I use... isPresented: .constant(true) ...the search isn't activated until the sheet has completed it's entrance animation, resulting in two stages of animation. I can't add a video here, but the two images below show the steps I am seeing. First a slide up animation, with the search in the navigation drawer, then a second animation, once the sheet is fully in place, as the search becomes active. Is it possible to merge these two animations, so search is in place when the sheet animates up?

CarPlay Question
Why is there no option as a CarPlay developer to enable the creation of an App to track and enter your car's maintenance records? I know the pat reply would be Apple doesn't want you to do this while car is in motion. But I would normally do this while parked at the dealership or other service provider no?

App Crashes on Paper Selection After Background Printer Connection
Description: When initiating the print flow via UIPrintInteractionController, and no printer is initially connected, iOS displays all possible paper sizes in the paper selection UI. However, if a printer connects in the background after this view is shown, the list of paper sizes does not automatically refresh to reflect only the options supported by the connected printer. If the user selects an incompatible paper size (one not supported by the printer that has just connected), the app crashes due to an invalid configuration. Steps to Reproduce: Launch the app and navigate to the print functionality. Tap the Print button to invoke UIPrintInteractionController. At this point, no printer is yet connected. iOS displays all available paper sizes. While the paper selection UI is visible, the AirPrint-compatible printer connects in the background. Without dismissing the controller, the user selects a paper size (e.g., one that is not supported by the printer). The app crashes. Expected Result: App should not crash Once the printer becomes available (connected in the background), the paper size options should refresh automatically. The list should be filtered to only include sizes that are compatible with the connected printer. This prevents the user from selecting an invalid option, avoiding crashes. Actual Result: App crashes The paper size list remains unfiltered. The user can still select unsupported paper sizes. Selecting an incompatible option causes the app to crash, due to a mismatch between UI selection and printer capability.

Data Fetch issue from SensorKit
I want use SensorKit data for research purposes in my current app. I have applied for and received permission from Apple to access SensorKit Data. I have granting all the necessary permissions. VisionOS custom hover effect and click sound
I have created a custom hover effect per this WWDC video and many other examples on the Net: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2024/10152/ I can get the button to expand when looked at within a VisionOS device and it will invoke a tap event when tapped but there is no click sound like a normal SwiftUI button does in VisionOS! I can't for the life of me figure out why. Any help would be appreciated!

SwiftUI refresh while alert is visible
Does causing a swiftui view refresh via modifying observed properties while an alert is visible allowed? I am seeing a warning 'Presenting view controller <SwiftUI.PlatformAlertController> from detached view controller is not supported, and may result in incorrect safe area insets and a corrupt root presentation. Make sure <SwiftUI.PlatformAlertController> is in the view hierarchy before presenting from it. Will become a hard exception in a future release.' and the warning 'Attempt to present <SwiftUI.PlatformAlertController> on (from ) while a presentation is in progress'. The second warning occurs more often.

NSTableView.clickedRow sometimes is greater than number of rows
Xcode has been downloading many similar crash reports for my app for some time now, related to an index out of range runtime exception when accessing a Swift array. The crashes always happen in methods triggered by user input or during menu item validation when I try to access the data source array by using the following code to determine the indexes of the relevant table rows: let indexes = clickedRow == -1 || selectedRowIndexes.contains(clickedRow) ? selectedRowIndexes : IndexSet(integer: clickedRow) I was never able to reproduce the crash until today. When the app crashed in the Xcode debugger, I examined the variables clickedRow and selectedRowIndexes.first, which were 1 and 0 respectively. What's interesting: the table view only contained one row, so clickedRow was effectively invalid. I tried to reproduce the issue several times afterwards, but it never happened again. What could cause this issue? What are the circumstances where it is invalid? Do I always have to explicitly check if clickedRow is within the data source range?

SwiftUI subview .frame ignored on parent view appear, MacOS
When a parent view is selected for the detail pane of a NavigationSplitView subviews appear as expected but not with the dimensions set by .frame on the subview. Toggling the flag works as expected, appearing the subview with the idealWidth. I persist the flag in a SwiftData @Model class so that on restart and first appearance of the parent view the Right View subview presence is as it was left. The problem is that the .frame size is ignored, apparently. No manner of programatic view refresh seems to trigger a resize to the preferred values, only toggling the flag. Is there a better way to handle a collapsing subview in an HSplitView? Why is the .frame not respected? In this example I've added the else clause so HSplitView always has two views with .frame settings but the result is the same without it. VStack { HSplitView { VStack { Text("left view") } .frame( minWidth: 100, idealWidth: .infinity, maxWidth: .infinity, maxHeight: .infinity ) if documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing { VStack { Text("right view") } .frame( minWidth: 100, idealWidth: 200, maxWidth: .infinity, maxHeight: .infinity ) } else { Text("") .frame( minWidth: 0, idealWidth: 0, maxWidth: 0, maxHeight: .infinity ) } } HStack { Button("Right View", systemImage: { documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing ? "chart.pie.fill" : "chart.pie"}(), action: { documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing.toggle() } ) } } } } MacOS Sequoia 15.3.1, Xcode 16.2

SwiftUI: How do you do CoreData backup and restore?
Hi, I am trying to create a local backup + restore when using SwiftUI and CoreData but I am facing errors left and right. the latest error I am stuck on is: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: 'executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity.' Here is what am trying to do: Creating a backup (already solved using NSPersistentStoreCoordinator.migratePersistentStore(_:to:options:type:)) Create a new NSPersistentContainer and call its NSPersistentContainer.loadPersistentStores(completionHandler:) (already solved, load is successful) Update the .environment(.managedObjectContext, viewModel.context) so that SwiftUI uses the new context. (HERE is where the error appears) Any help would be appreciated. Here is some sample code of SwiftUI part of the main view: class ViewModel: ObservableObject { @Published var context: NSManagedObjectContext } @main struct MyApp: App { @StateObject var viewModel: ViewModel var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() .environment(\.managedObjectContext, viewModel.context) } } }

Removing SwiftUI View from hierarchy
In a UIKit application, removing a view from the hierarchy is straightforward—we simply call myView.removeFromSuperview(). This not only removes myView from the UI but also deallocates any associated memory. Now that I'm transitioning to SwiftUI, I'm struggling to understand the recommended way to remove a view from the hierarchy, given SwiftUI's declarative nature. I understand that in SwiftUI, we declare everything that should be displayed. However, once a view is rendered, what is the correct way to remove it? Should all UI elements be conditionally controlled to determine whether they appear or not? Below is an example of how I’m currently handling this, but it doesn’t feel like the right approach for dynamically removing a view at runtime. Can someone guide me on the best way to remove views in SwiftUI? struct ContentView: View { @State private var isVisible = true var body: some View { VStack { if isVisible { // set this to false to remove TextView? Text("Hello, SwiftUI!") .padding() } Button("Toggle View") { ... } } } }

Translate extension bahvior
DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM We need to add an implementation that will have the same swipe/scroll behavior as the Apple Translator extension, here is the code that we are currently using: import SwiftUI import TranslationUIProvider @main class TranslationProviderExtension: TranslationUIProviderExtension { required init() {} var body: some TranslationUIProviderExtensionScene { TranslationUIProviderSelectedTextScene { context in VStack { TranslationProviderView(context: context) } } } } struct TranslationProviderView: View { @State var context: TranslationUIProviderContext init(context c: TranslationUIProviderContext) { context = c } var body: some View { ScrollableSheetView() } } struct ScrollableSheetView: View { var body: some View { ScrollView { VStack(spacing: 20) { ForEach(0..<50) { index in Text("Item (index)") .padding() .frame(maxWidth: .infinity) .background(Color.blue.opacity(0.1)) .cornerRadius(8) } } .padding() } .padding() } } Using this code, on the first extension run, swipe up will expand the extension (which is OK) but swiping down on the expanded state of the extension works only as a scroll instead of swiping the extension from expanded mode back to compact mode. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Select a text in Safari Tap on Translate in the contextual menu Swipe up on the text ->the extension expands into full mode Swipe down->only scrolls work, I cannot swipe the extension from full mode to compact mode. Expected behavior: when i swipe down on the expanded extension, the extension should get into compact mode, not continuously scroll down.

UINavigationController inside singleton
I have a struct that holds an instance of UINavigationController: struct NavigationController { static let shared = UINavigationController() } I use NavigationController.shared to push and pop ViewControllers around the app, rather than using the ViewController's .navigationController property. The issue I'm having is that when I pop I get new instances of my previous ViewController, this is my hierarchy: (0) UIWindow | ---- (1) NavigationController (is set as the UIWindow.rootViewController) | ---- (2) UITabBarController (is set with NavigationController.shared.setViewControllers) | ---- (3) ViewController (HomeVC) (is the first tab of the UITabController) | ---- (4) ViewController (ScanVC) (is pushed into the stack by NavigationController.shared.pushViewController) ---- (5) ViewController (NotificationsVC) ---- (6) ViewController (SettingsVC) I put a print statement in my HomeVC in the viewDidLoad method My understanding is that the viewDidLoad should only be called once in the lifecycle of a ViewController When I go back to the HomeVC from the ScanVC then the print always gets triggered which means I have a new instance of the HomeVC This is the print statement I created inside the viewDidLoad method: print("\(#function) View Did Load, instance: \(self)") Here's the output from going back and forth from the HomeVC to ScanVC: viewDidLoad() View Did Load, instance: <HomeVC: 0x118db0000> viewDidLoad() View Did Load, instance: <HomeVC: 0x118db3100> viewDidLoad() View Did Load, instance: <HomeVC: 0x118db0700> Any one has any suggestions on how to fix this? Because ideally going back to the HomeVC should not instantiate a new ViewController. I tested this on a small test project and viewDidLoad would only be triggered once when the ViewController was instantiated.

UIPasteControl Not Recognizing Tap
I have an iOS app where I'm trying to paste something previously copied to the user's UIPasteboard. I came across the UIPasteControl as an option for a user to tap to silently paste without having the prompt "Allow Paste" pop up. For some reason, despite having what seemingly is the correct configurations for the UIPasteControl, on testing a tap, nothing is called. I expected override func paste(itemProviders: [NSItemProvider]) to fire, but it does not. Any help would be appreciated as there doesn't seem to be much info anywhere regarding UIPasteControl. import UniformTypeIdentifiers class ViewController: UIViewController { private let pasteControl = UIPasteControl() override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() view.backgroundColor = .systemBackground pasteControl.target = self pasteConfiguration = UIPasteConfiguration(acceptableTypeIdentifiers: [ UTType.text.identifier, UTType.url.identifier, UTType.plainText.identifier ]) view.addSubview(pasteControl) pasteControl.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false NSLayoutConstraint.activate([ pasteControl.centerXAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.centerXAnchor), pasteControl.centerYAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.centerYAnchor), ]) } } extension ViewController { override func paste(itemProviders: [NSItemProvider]) { for provider in itemProviders { if provider.hasItemConformingToTypeIdentifier(UTType.url.identifier) { provider.loadObject(ofClass: URL.self) { [weak self] reading, _ in guard let url = reading as? URL else { return } print(url) } } else if provider.hasItemConformingToTypeIdentifier(UTType.plainText.identifier) { provider.loadObject(ofClass: NSString.self) { [weak self] reading, _ in guard let nsstr = reading as? NSString else { return } let str = nsstr as String if let url = URL(string: str) { print(url) } } } } } }

Trouble using MKAnnotation on a MKMapView
Hi everyone, i'im having troubles using Annotation on a Map View. I have a a core data model called Location that conforms to NSManagedObject from CoreData and MKAnnotation form MapKit, and i'm trying to add an array of Location to a MKMview instance in a UIViewController class, by doing somethhing like this: mapView.addAnnotation(locations), but xcode compliants with a strange error which says Argument type '[Location]' does not conform to expected type 'MKAnnotation'. it's strange to me because my Location class conforms to MKAnnotation protocol and i implemented the protocol's methods (coordinate, title, subtitle). Please can anyone help me how to fix this issues. Thank you all

NSLayoutManager returning inconsistent values for a glyph's text container and its line fragment rect
TLDR: NSLayoutManager's textContainer(forGlyphAt:effectiveRange:) and lineFragmentRect(forGlyphRange:effectiveRange:) are returning inconsistent results. Context: I'm developing a word processing app that paginates from an NSTextStorage using NSLayoutManager. My app uses a text attribute (.columnType) to paginate sub-ranges of the text at a time, ensuring that each columnRange gets a container (or series of containers across page breaks) to fit. This is to support both multi-column and standard full-page-width content. After any user edit, I update pagination data in my Paginator model class. I calcuate frames/sizes for the views/containers, along with what superview they belong to (page). The UI updates accordingly. In order to determine whether the columnRange has overflowed from a container due to a page break OR whether the range of text hasn't overflowed its container and is actually using less space than available and should be sized down, I call both: layoutManager.textContainer(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: &actualGlyphRangeInContainer)` // and `layoutManager.lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: nil) Apple Documentation notes that both these calls force glyph generation and layout. As I'm in early development, I have not set non-contiguous layout. So these should be causing full layout, assuring accurate return values. Or so I'd hoped. This does work fine in many cases. I edit. Pagination works. But then I'll encounter UI-breaking inconsistent returns from these two calls. By inconsistent, I mean that the second call returns a line fragment rect that is in the container coordinates of A DIFFERENT container than the container returned by the first call. To be specific, the line fragment rect seems to be in the coordinates of the container that comes next in layoutManager.textContainers. Example Code: if !layoutManager.textContainers.indices.contains(i) { containerToUse = createTextContainer(with: availableSize) layoutManager.addTextContainer(containerToUse) } else { // We have a container already but it may be // the wrong size. containerToUse = layoutManager.textContainers[i] if containerToUse.size.width != availableSize.width { // Mandatory that we resize if we don't have // a matching width. Height resizing is not // mandatory and requires a layout check below. containerToUse.size = availableSize } } let glyphRange = layoutManager.glyphRange(forCharacterRange: remainingColumnRange, actualCharacterRange: nil) let lastGlyphOfColumn = NSMaxRange(glyphRange) - 1 var containerForLastGlyphOfColumn = layoutManager.textContainer(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: &actualGlyphRangeInContainer) if containerForLastGlyphOfColumn != containerToUse && containerToUse.size.height < availableSize.height { // If we are here, we overflowed the container, // BUT the container we overflowed didn't use // the maximum remaining page space (this // means it was a pre-existing container that // needs to be sized up and checked once more). // NOTE RE: THE BUG: // at this point, prints show... // containerToUse.size.height // =628 // availableSize.height // =648 containerToUse.size = availableSize containerForLastGlyphOfColumn = layoutManager.textContainer(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: &actualGlyphRangeInContainer) } // We now check again, knowing that the container we // are testing flow into is the max size it can be. if containerForLastGlyphOfColumn != containerToUse { // If we are here, we have overflowed the // container, so containerToUse size SHOULD be // final/accurate, since it is fully used. actualCharRangeInContainer = layoutManager.characterRange(forGlyphRange: actualGlyphRangeInContainer, actualGlyphRange: nil) // Start of overflow range is the first character // in the container that was overflowed into. let overflowLoc = actualCharRangeInContainer.location remainingColumnRange = NSRange(location: overflowLoc, length: remainingColumnRange.length - overflowLoc) // Update page count as we have broken to a new page currentPage += 1 } else { // If we are here, we have NOT overflowed // from the container. BUT... // THE BUG: // ***** HERE IS THE BUG! ***** lineFragmentRectForLastChar = layoutManager.lineFragmentRect(forGlyphAt: lastGlyphOfColumn, effectiveRange: nil) let usedHeight = lineFragmentRectForLastChar.maxY // BUG: ^The lines of code above return a // fragment rect that is in the coordinates // of the WRONG text container. Prints show: // usedHeight // =14 // usedHeight shouldn't be just 14 if this is // the SAME container that, when it was 628 // high, resulted in text overflowing. // Therefore, the line fragment here seems // to be in the coordinates of the ENSUING // container that we overflowed INTO, but // that shouldn't be possible, since we're in // a closure for which we know: // // containerForLastGlyphOfColumn == containerToUse // // If the last glyph container is the container // we just had to size UP, why does the final // glyph line fragment rect have a maxY of 14!? // Including ensuing code below only for context. if usedHeight < containerToUse.size.height { // Adjust container size down to usedRect containerToUse.size = CGSize(width: containerToUse.size.width, height: usedHeight) } else if usedHeight == availableSize.height { // We didn't force break to a new page BUT // we've used exactly the height of our page // to layout this column range, so need to // break to a new page for any ensuing text // columns. currentPage += 1 } else if usedHeight > containerToUse.size.height { // We should have caught this earlier. Text // has overflowed, but this should've been // caught when we checked // containerForLastGlyphOfColumn != // containerToUse. // // Note: this error has never thrown. throw PaginationError.unknownError("Oops.") } } Per my comments in the code block above, I don't understand why the very same text container that just overflowed and so had to be sized up from 628 to 648 in order to try to fit a glyph would now report that same glyph as both being IN that same container and having a line fragment rect with a maxY of just 14. A glyph couldn't fit in a container when it was 628 high, but if I size it up to 648, it only needs 14? There's something very weird going on here. Working with NSLayoutManager is a bit of a nightmare given the unclear documentation. Any help or insight here would be massively, massively appreciated.

Alerts/formsheets add 0.8 alpha tint to all vcs all views underneath!?!?!
Hello, I just noticed weird unexpected behaviour. It seems when you present UIAlertController or custom VC as partially screen covering formsheet, ALL the views underneath get 0.8 alpha tint (ios 15 and 18) Is there any way to disable this behaviour? So far it only breaks minor custom "star" view but I imagine arbitrarily adding 0.8 alpha to EVERYTHING can really mess up some layouts/designs. Regards, Martynas Stanaitis

Dynamic island not displaying UI views
i finally got previews for dynamic island to work and I'm just trying to first work on adding a static UI elements to my dynamic island like i did for my live screen live activity, but my dynamic island view is showing up totally empty, if i add my app icon image to the compact leading closure, it doesn't appear, if i ad text to an expanded region closure it doesn't appear. am really stuck on this and would approeciate the help. var body: some View { Image("dynamicrep") .resizable() .scaledToFit() .clipShape(.circle) } } struct DynamicRepLiveActivity: Widget { var body: some WidgetConfiguration { ActivityConfiguration(for: DynamicRepAttributes.self) { context in VStack { HStack(spacing: 257) { Text("from \(context.attributes.titleName ?? "no title")") .fontWeight(.light) .font(.system(size: 16)) .foregroundStyle(Color.gray) Circle() .frame(width: 53, height: 50) .foregroundStyle(Color.gray).opacity(0.23) .overlay { Image("mmicon") } } .frame(maxWidth: 500, maxHeight: 210) Spacer() Text("\(context.attributes.contentBody ?? "no content")") } .activityBackgroundTint(Color.cyan) .activitySystemActionForegroundColor(Color.black) .frame(width: 500, height: 300) } dynamicIsland: { context in DynamicIsland { // Expanded UI goes here. Compose the expanded UI through // various regions, like leading/trailing/center/bottom DynamicIslandExpandedRegion(.leading) { Text("from \(context.attributes.titleName ?? "no title")") } DynamicIslandExpandedRegion(.trailing) { Circle() } DynamicIslandExpandedRegion(.bottom) { Text("\(context.attributes.contentBody ?? "no content")") } } compactLeading: { AppLogo() } compactTrailing: { Text("") //empty for now } minimal: { Text("hello") //empty for now } .widgetURL(URL(string: "MuscleMemory.KimchiLabs.com")) .keylineTint(Color.white) } } }
